BCTGM union members from around the country descended on Lincolnshire, Ill. for the 2018 Nabisco/Mondelēz shareholder meeting. Outside the meeting venue, union members, retirees and supporters held a rally and demonstration protesting the company’s pension proposal that would strip current employees of their defined benefit pension plan.

Among those joining Local 300 Nabisco workers in Lincolnshire were members of Locals 1 (Chicago), 6 (Philadelphia), 42 (Atlanta), 57 (Columbus, Ohio), 70 (Grand Rapids, Mich.), 81 (Traverse City, Mich.), 253 (Cincinnati, Ohio), 252G (Memphis), 719 (Fairlawn, N.J.), 358 (Richmond, Va.), 3G (Battle Creek, Mich.) and 42 (Atlanta).

Union members and supporters were joined by clergy and representatives of the religious community, which has offered significant support as the campaign continues to fight work worker injustice in both the United States and Mexico.

While the crowd rallied outside, inside the Mondelēz shareholders meeting, BCTGM International President David Durkee addressed board members and corporate officers with questions about the company’s pension proposal that would plunge Nabisco/Mondelēz workers’ retirement security into doubt.

When the meeting concluded, BCTGM members and supporters blocked the shareholders and Mondelēz executives from exiting the parking lot, holding “Hands off our pensions” signs.
