Safe
working conditions are a major priority for the BCTGM. You have a right
to go to work in the morning and return in the same shape you left.
BCTGM
members are faced with more different and severe hazards than almost
any other worker: repetitive strain, back injuries, chemicals, confined
spaces, machinery hazards, heat stress disorders,
infectious diseases and a variety of other workplace hazards kill, injure,
sicken and maim thousands of members every year. And many BCTGM members
face these hazards doing jobs that most Americans don’t even want to
think about.
This special BCTGM job safety and health website
is designed to help all workers learn about their rights, to provide
the latest job safety and health information and resources to union
and nonunion workers, local union safety representatives and job safety
and health professionals.
Ergonomics
Nearly
2 million workers are crippled and injured each year because of ergonomic
hazards on the job. In 2001, Congress, with the support of the Bush
administration repealed the nation's ergonomics standard. In 2002, the
Bush administration replaced it with a plan for weak and voluntary employer
guidelines. Find out more about the fight to protect workers from the
biggest job safety hazard in America.
Workers
Compensation
If
you or someone you know is hurt on the job, what are your rights, what
are you benefits and where can you get help? Workers' compensation laws
differ from state-to-state. Learn about your state's laws and other
information.
