What
Are MSDs?
MSDs, also known
as repetitive strain injuries (RSIs), are disorders of joints, tendons,
muscles and can involve nerves. Examples of common MSDs include carpal
tunnel syndrome, tendinitis, ganglion cysts, back injuries or chronic
back pain. MSDs are caused by exposure to working conditions that put
a harmful strain on workers’ bodies. The working conditions that cause
these problems are called risk factors. Common risk factors
include: awkward postures (reaching overhead), forceful
movements (moving a patient), repetitive motions
(data entry), lack of breaks/long shifts, vibration,
and environmental factors (temperature and lighting).
