Employee Free Choice Act

More working people than ever—some 57 million—say they would join a union if they had a chance, according to a survey from Peter D. Hart Research Associates. But employers routinely harass, intimidate and coerce workers who try to exercise their right to form a union at work.

The Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA), ensures that when a majority of employees in a workplace decide to form a union, they can do so without the debilitating obstacles employers now use to block their workers’ free choice.

• Call your U.S. senators at 202-224-3121 and U.S. representative at 202-225-3121, and urge them to co-sponsor the EFCA.

The Employee Free Choice Act will:

• Allow employees to freely choose whether to form unions by signing cards authorizing union representation.
• Provide mediation and arbitration for first contract disputes.
• Establish stronger penalties for violation of employee rights when workers seek to form a union and during first contract negotiations.
