13 Safeway Sanitation Workers join Local 114, Portland, Ore.

BCTGM Local 114 (Portland, Ore.) won an organizing election to represent 13 sanitation workers employed at the BCTGM represented captive Safeway Bakery in Portland.

This sanitation department has never been union. The result of the election was 10 (Union Yes) to 2 no votes.

Incredibly, Safeway used anti-union attorneys on their campaign and brought in two high-ranking corporate management persons from California and Oregon to convince the workers to vote against the BCTGM.

Local 114 Financial Secretary Terry Lansing and Local 114 Business Agent Shad Clark worked on this campaign, assisted by International Representative Eric Anderson.

Strike Report
